Local pack: "the three map results at the top" — what your service measures and moves.
The local pack is the map-based block of (usually) three local business listings Google shows for queries with local intent, populated from Google Business Profile data. For clients: "the three map results at the top of Google" — the thing your service measures and moves.
Definition
When a query implies a place, Google inserts a unit pairing a map with a short list of businesses near the top of results. That unit is the local pack. Entries show the business name, rating, category and location details and click through to Maps. Because it holds few slots and sits high, the pack carries most of the visibility value of a local-intent query.
Using the term with clients
The local pack is the anchor of every client conversation about value: "this is where your customers choose." Internally, it is the measured object of your tracking stack — geo-grid scans record pack positions per point, and tools like LocalRank (localrank.so) archive them on a schedule. The service loop built on that measurement is the agency playbook.
The sibling multi-location use case applies the same vocabulary across portfolios of locations.
